  • August 15, 2018
  • 7:00 PM
  • Midland Public Library

Speakers: Dr. Mary Thornbush

Topic: Conservation of Stone Memorials in Greyfriar’s Kirkyard, Edinburgh, Scotland, UK.

Dr. Thornbush’s talk will address the condition of memorials located in one of the oldest churchyards situated in central Edinburgh. By adopting a cross-temporal approach to the cultural record, it is possible to decipher change affected by a variety of intrinsic and extrinsic factors working to degrade and deteriorate the sandstone monuments. Through a photo-based approach, the memorials are conveyed across time and their individual weathering features thoroughly investigated, in order to determine the many variables influencing their condition from a sustainable heritage perspective.

You are cordially invited to attend.
