The Huronia Chapter of the Ontario Archaeological Society will be meeting on Wednesday, 11 July, 2018 at 7 p.m. at the Midland Public Library to host a talk and PowerPoint presentation by Ken Armson and Beverley Kent on their research pertaining to William Armson, soldier, settler, and local politician, spanning 74 years from 1784 through 1858.

Their talk is divided into four segments: his early life in Nottingham; his military service from 1807 to 1816; his emigration to Upper Canada; and finally his life and career in Simcoe County, with him becoming one of the first settlers in West Gwillimbury Township in South Simcoe, and subsequently reeve of that township and the first elected warden of Simcoe County.

Along with their PowerPoint presentation, the two will discuss many of their research challenges in England, the United States and in Canada over the course of the last dozen years or so. A book titled William Armson 1784-1858: Soldier, Settler, Politician was published by the Tecumseth and West Gwillimbury Historical Society in 2017, and copies of it will be available for purchase.
